Peran Industri Garmen sebagai Motor Pemberdayaan Perempuan di Bangladesh: Analisis Indikator Gender
Abstract
Selama beberapa dekade terakhir, Bangladesh berhasil tumbuh menjadi negara dengan kemajuan ekonomi yang pesat. Kunci penting pertumbuhan ekonominya berasal dari industry garmennya. Industri ini telah tumbuh dan menjadi tulang punggung perekonomian Bangladesh dimana ia menopang 80% dari seluruh pendapatan negara. Melalui industry ini pula, Bangladesh berhasil menyediakan jutaan lapangan pekerjaan terutama bagi para wanita. Kesempatan untuk bekerja telah menjadi cara pemerintah meningkatkan pemberdayaan perempuan. Wanita juga mulai mendapatkan kesempatan untuk mendapatkan upah yang setara dengan para pria sehingga bisa meningkatkan harga diri mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran industri garmen dalam meningkatkan pemberdayaan perempuan di Bangladesh, khususnya dalam aspek kesehatan, pendidikan, dan standar hidup. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif berbasis data sekunder dari buku, jurnal, dan sumber berita terpercaya, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pertumbuhan ekonomi melalui industri garmen belum sepenuhnya mampu memberdayakan perempuan secara menyeluruh di Bangladesh.
