Nasser, Gaddafi, and al-Assad managed to hold power, because they used military, secret police, and political party as their apparatus. While like Gaddafi, the network of tribal relations were used to secure his positions. However, all three got much of their power from their military background. Esprit de corps, communication network, and military hierarchy make them able to withstand all oppositions. The development of the international politics also in some way helped them to secure power. Some of the Western countries have to forge alliance with Egypt, Libya and Syria in order to fight the Islamic political groups.
